BAOBAB

History, Benefits & Uses

What is Baobab

Baobab is a nutrient-dense superfruit that grows on the iconic baobab tree native to Africa and featured in "The Lion King" movie. Its pulp naturally dries inside the pod and is then ground into a fine, tangy powder that’s rich in vitamin C, prebiotic fiber, and antioxidants. Baobab has been used for centuries in African communities as a natural remedy and energizing food source.

Today, baobab is gaining global recognition for its impressive health benefits and versatility. You can mix baobab powder into smoothies, yogurt, baked goods, or even water for a citrusy wellness boost. Kuli Kuli works directly with African women-led cooperatives to ethically source baobab, 95% of which is generally left to rot on the ground, supporting both your health and global sustainability.

What does baobab taste like?

Sourcing Baobab

Baobab fruit grows on the baobab tree, a majestic and drought-resistant tree native to Africa. These trees can live for over a thousand years and produce large, gourd-like fruits that hang from their branches. Inside each fruit is a naturally dry pulp that surrounds black seeds—unlike most fruits, baobab pulp dries on the tree without the need for heat or processing. Harvesting baobab is a labor-intensive but sustainable process. The fruit is gathered from the ground by local women, who crack open the hard shells to collect the dry pulp. This pulp is then separated from the seeds and ground into a fine, nutrient-rich powder. Because the pulp is naturally dry, the process requires minimal energy and the baobab retains its natural nutrients, making baobab powder one of the most sustainable and nutrient-dense superfoods on the planet.
